The term SCADA is formed from the initials of the words “Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition”. It can be translated into Turkish as "Consultant Control and Data Collection System" or "Remote Control and Monitoring System" Briefly, it is the general name of a controllable and controlled system composed of computers, communication devices, sensors or other devices. In general, it is divided into two as energy scada (Electricity-Water-Natural Gas) and process scada (factory-facility automation).
Recent developments in computer and communication technologies and cost reductions in related devices have made the automation of electricity distribution systems technically and economically feasible. For example, with distribution and water automation, remote monitoring and fast and effective control of the network is ensured, resulting in more reliable, continuous and quality electrical energy and water supply.System information can be archived and the most effective and economical business management is provided with statistical reports.
SCADA systems, which are used for systems that perform surveillance control and data collection for processes, together with various tools (RTU, PLC, etc.) used in the control of processes in the factory (raw material, production and product tracking, etc.) form an infrastructure for the production control and follow-up of the factory.an ideal structure can be reached by establishing the necessary connections with production resources planning (MRPII) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The aim is to establish the necessary structure to produce higher quality and more at the lowest cost.Benefiting from the facilities in the business with the highest efficiency can be achieved by the managers having full knowledge of the business and production information.SCADA software packages should take on the task of infrastructure software in industrial facilities and allow all layers of the company to work in harmony by connecting to networks inside and outside the factory.SCADA provides real-time, detailed information to anyone across the enterprise that they can access at any time.
The SCADA system can be used in many different areas such as the operation of pumps, valves and flow measurement equipment in processing plants, gas, oil, chemical and water pipelines, the control of on-off switches in kilometers of electrical transmission lines and the balancing of sudden load changes in the lines.
All facilities and businesses have started to install the SCADA system; will gain more and more momentum.
